KNX RGB 3CH for RGB Color Mixing and Smart Lighting Control

Architecture and Features for RGB Lighting Automation and Integration

Standard

The KNX RGB 3-channel controllers and drivers allow regulation of color and light intensity for tri-channel RGB LED loads via the KNX bus (TP/IP/RF). Configuration is performed with ETS (scenes, groups, logic, schedulers). Versions are available with 12/24/36/48 V DC and 110/220 VAC inputs, offering constant voltage (CV) or constant current (CC) outputs.

System architecture

  • KNX RGB 3CH: DIN-rail or flush-mounted modules for independent management of the three LED channels R/G/B and color mixing.
  • User interfaces: KNX push buttons/panels, touch screens, and visual displays; binary inputs for traditional push buttons.
  • KNX sensors: presence and lux sensors for automatic logic (on/off, dimming, daylight harvesting, color scenes).
  • Integration gateways: conversion to DALI, DMX or 0–10V for hybrid systems; through KNX IP, communication with BACnet/BMS enables supervision, energy monitoring, and HVAC integration.
  • Bus power supply: KNX TP line with dedicated power supply and line/area couplers for large-scale installations.

Advanced features

  • Full color management: RGB tri-channel control with independent adjustment of hue, saturation, and intensity.
  • Dynamic scenes: color cycles, smooth transitions, and preset palettes controllable via KNX.
  • KNX bus control: scenes, groups, time-based and conditional logic, environment profiles, and event synchronization.
  • ETS commissioning: parameter setup for dimming curves, ramps, fade times, min/max levels, and power-on states.
  • Wired reliability: stable low-voltage communication immune to radio interference.
  • Deep dimming <1%: smooth, uniform adjustment without perceptible flicker, suitable for professional installations.
  • Multiprotocol integration: KNX–DALI/DMX or BACnet bridge for extended lighting scenes, supervision, and building automation.
  • High-frequency PWM: 250–500 Hz (entry), 1–4 kHz (mid), 8–16 kHz (high-end), suitable for photography and video recording.
  • Visual and aesthetic comfort: decorative and ambient color scenarios ensuring chromatic consistency.
  • Energy efficiency: reduced consumption and longer LED lifespan.

Typical applications

  • Chromotherapy and relaxation: color palettes for emotional and psychophysical wellbeing.
  • Emotional shower: light-color cycles combined with sound and aroma for immersive experiences.
  • Advanced residential: living rooms, home entertainment, and relaxation areas with customizable color effects and scenes.
  • Corporate offices and creative spaces: meeting areas, events, and receptions with RGB lighting for branding and communication.
  • Hospitality: hotels, lounges, and restaurants with personalized atmospheres and smooth transitions.
  • Retail and showrooms: showcases and corners with dynamic light to enhance materials and products.
  • Museums and exhibitions: lighting installations, uniform washes, and timed scenes for exhibition routes.
  • Hybrid systems: KNX + DMX/DALI for complex lighting scenes, precise dimming, and event synchronization.
